The Pros and Cons of Credit Cards
One of the easiest ways to get into financial trouble is by getting a credit card. This kind of freedom, after all, is fantastic and offers amazing flexibility, especially since a record breaking number of businesses now have credit card processing. But if you’re not able and prepared to spend wisely within that kind of system, you can quickly find yourself absolutely drowning in credit card debt. Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to get by without establishing a credit history.
So if you want to get loans or rent an apartment, you must get a credit card and learn to accept that you still can’t spend more than you can afford. After all, the best way to eliminate credit card debt is by not getting into that debt in the first place. But if you do have to put a major purchase on your card that you can only pay off in installments, make sure your APR is reasonable. Then, start making your payments until the debt is settled. And most importantly, don’t indulge in more purchases until your old debt is settled. This is how people become unexpectedly buried in debt. If you need a credit card but don’t think that you are prepared to use it responsibly, consider getting a prepaid credit card; these give you the same freedom as a credit card but only allow you to spend a preloaded amount of money.
